School Grade 3

Silas is the second born child in a family of four children. He was born in 2013 in Kakiimba village, Mfangano North location. Both of his parents are alive. His father, who is the caregiver, is a boat coxswain while the mother is a house wife. Even though Silas’s parents are alive, they have been struggling to care for the family fully. The entire family depends on the father’s income and sometimes that is not enough. Silas’ parents also face health challenges. All of these factors have made it difficult for Silas to attend school regularly and to eat three meals a day. Often times, he only receives two meals a day and drinks lake water which is untreated. Silas shares a mattress with his siblings and shares a bedsheet.

Silas’ older sibling, Melvin, is learning at Wasamo Primary School in grade 2 and the third born, Stephen, is in KG1. The fourth born, Abisalom, is not yet old enough to attend school. Silas was also learning at Wasamo Primary before joining GGCC.

Silas was admitted to GGCC in January of 2020 in PP1 as a vulnerable child. He is so happy to join GGCC. His father is also grateful to God for the opportunity granted to his son. Silas likes the school environment and enjoys the time at the playground with his peers.

While at GGCC, Silas will learn without any fear of being sent home for school levies or for lack of school uniform. He will take all three meals and sleep well on a bed.  Silas is looking forward to working hard to become a pilot. During his leisure time, he likes playing football.  Silas does not have any health concerns.
