Abdulai O. 1768

Grade Male: 9th - 12th Gr.

School Grade 10

Abdulai was born in 2008 in Rinya Village of Mfangano Island. He is the fourth born child in a family of seven children. He lives with both of his parents. His father is a farmer while his mother sells green groceries and sardines. Both parents act as breadwinners for the family, however, with his father having a second wife and such a large family, they have struggled to meet basic needs at times.

Abdulai’s siblings include Evans Omolo who finished high school, but did not go on to higher education, Nicholus Onyango who attends the University of Machakos, Yvonne Adhiambo of Kakiimba Secondary School, Lilian Akinyi of Wakula Primary School, Wycliffe Okinyi and Melvin Sharon, both of who attend Rinya Primary school.

Before joining GGCC in Form 1, Abdulai also attended Rinya Primary School, where he faced difficulties in keeping up with his payments for school. He missed classes several times because of lack of payment and school requirements. He also did not have appropriate clothing and school uniforms, which led to some issues with low self-esteem in certain situations. Abdulai also says that at home he does not get three meals a day. His father and mother do their best to provide, but sometimes it’s just not enough.

Abdulai joined GGCC in February of 2023 in grade 9 as a vulnerable child. His parents are grateful for the opportunity granted to Abdulai. Abdulai loves geography and how his teachers take time to help him understand. He shared that he feels he is an environment now that is conducive to learning and where talents are nurtured. He believes that through GGCC he will be able to achieve great things. While at GGCC, Abdulai will not be sent home for school levies and will enjoy the full benefits of the resources found at GGCC.

During his leisure time, Abdulai loves playing soccer with his peers. He would like to be a doctor when he grows up. He is in good health.
