Becky A. 1700

Grade Female: 9th - 12th Gr.

School Grade 11

Becky Akinyi was born in 2007 at Ramba Village of Mfangano Island. She is the third born child in a family of five children. Becky’s father’s name is Paul and her mother’s name is Linkey. Becky currently lives with both of her parents. Her father is the breadwinner of the family. Becky’s father goes fishing in Lake Victoria to provide for his children at home and as a way of earning a living however, fishing is tough and often doesn’t produce enough to support them fully. The seasonality and unpredictability makes it difficult for Becky’s father to meet all the needs of his children, including paying for all of their school fees. There have been times when they have lacked food, taking only two meals a day and only porridge if it was really bad.

Becky’s siblings attend several different schools. The youngest Bradley attends Ramba Primary School where Becky was learning also before joining GGCC. Becky’s older siblings, Engalish and Razel, attend local high schools. Engalish is in grade 12 at Humanist Secondary and Razel is in grade 9 at Kakiimba Secondary. Tyron Ochieng is in grade 2 at Shalom Christian Center,

Becky scored the high marks of 324 on her 8th grade national exams, which enabled her to join GGCC.  Becky was admitted to GGCC in 2022 in grade 9 as a vulnerable child. She is so happy to join GGCC. While at GGCC, Becky will not face the challenges she faced at Ramba of being sent home for lack of payment. Becky will receive 3 meals a day and be able to concentrate on her academics. Becky is grateful to be in an environment where she will hear the word of God daily. Becky likes playing badminton during at her leisure time. Her favorite subject is Christian Religious Education. Becky would love to become a Nurse in the future.
