Sharon A. 1650

Grade Female: Kindergarten - 8th Gr.

School Grade 4

Sharon is the fourth born child in a family of six children. She was born on June 8, 2011 in Uozi village, Mfangano West location. Her father passed away from HIV/AIDS in 2017, leaving Sharon and her siblings under the care of their mother who is just a peasant farmer. Farming in that area is very unpredictable and not a reliable source of income for the family. Sharon’s mother often struggles to feed her children and send them to school also. Sharon’s oldest two siblings, Elizabeth and Novine dropped out of school in grades 8 and 11 because they were unable to pay for it. They are both married now.

Sharon has two siblings, Msaria and Euncie, that are attending school currently in grades 11 and 7, but they struggle to make the payments and attend consistently. They also do not always have the appropriate materials for learning. The youngest of the siblings does not attend school yet.

Sharon was learning at Uozi Primary School before joining GGCC. Sharon was admitted to GGCC in 2022 as an orphaned and vulnerable child in grade 4. She is excited to be at GGCC and happy to be joining other children from her village. While she was at home, she would meet students from GGCC and heard them speak fluent Kiswahili and English causing her to greatly long to one day join them. Her mother is equally happy and grateful to God who has granted Sharon this opportunity to learn at GGCC. This is a big relief for her.  At GGCC, she will learn without missing classes due to lack of school fees and scholastic materials. She will get three consistent meals a day and she will be able to focus on her academics. She would like to be a teacher when she grows up. Her best subjects are Mathematics and Kiswahili and she likes to play soccer.
