School Grade 5

Isack is the fifth born child in a family of six children: 2 boys and 4 girls. He was born in 2013 in Lianda village on Rusinga Island. Both of his parents are alive. His father, who is the breadwinner, is a fisherman, while his mother does not work outside the home. Isack’s father does not have his own fishing equipment, so he works for others, using their gear and nets. The seasonality of fishing makes it very difficult for Isack’s dad to provide for his large family. He picks up other odd jobs like fish hooking or small labor jobs in other’s homes, but often this is not enough to provide both meals and pay for the children’s educational expenses. At times, they only had porridge to eat. Isack has missed quite a bit of school when his father could not afford to pay the fees.

Isack’s oldest sister, Brenda, is training as a tailor. His other two older sisters, Zaida and Daisy are attending Lianda Primary in grades 7 and 3. His brother, Fidel, is in 4^th grade and enrolled with his sisters at Lianda. Isack’s youngest sister is not yet old enough to attend school.

Isack was also learning Lianda before joining GGCC. He was admitted to GGCC in August of 2021 in grade 2 as a vulnerable child. The family is so grateful for the opportunity granted to their son as this is a great relief. Isack is so happy to be in a boarding school and loves the school environment. He has hope that his life will not remain the same.

Isack would like to become a pilot when he grows up. His best subject is Mathematics.  He likes playing soccer.
