Genevive is the youngest child in her family of 4 children. She was born in 2012 in Masisi village, Mfangano North location. Both of her parents lived with HIV. Her father passed away when Genevive was very little. Her mother passed away from HIV complications in 2017.  Genevive and her siblings were taken in by their only living paternal uncle who works as a fisherman. Genevive’s uncle also has his own family to care for and doesn’t make enough through fishing to support all of them. He was recently able to purchase his own fishing equipment with help from relatives, but they have struggled mightily to provide the most basic of needs.

Genevive’s oldest sibling has managed through sponsorship to finish high school and pursue a degree at a university. The second born, Murray, dropped out of school and has left his family. The third born, Fallon was enrolled at GGCC and is in the 7^th grade. Genevive was learning at Masisi Primary School in grade 3 before being accepted to GGCC.

Genevive was admitted in GGCC in 2022 in grade 4 as an orphaned and vulnerable child. Her uncle is very grateful to God for the opportunity granted to Genevive as this is a great relief. Genevive is now sure with her education and achieving her dream of becoming a surgeon. At GGCC, she will not miss classes again due to lack of school levies and scholastic materials. Her best subject is English. During her leisure time, she likes playing soccer.
