School Grade 5

David was born in 2011 in Mauta village, in Mfangano South location. He is the third born child in a family of four children. Both of his parents are alive although they are frail, especially his father who is the breadwinner. He participates in illegal night fishing and does not own his own fishing gear. This type of work is very difficult for him at his age and in his state. He often struggles to make enough to both feed his family and send his children to school. At times, they have only had enough for one meal of porridge.

David and his siblings have missed a lot of school also and their academic performance has suffered because of it. When they can attend school, David’s older two siblings, Hellen and Sulman, attend Mauta Primary School in grades 8 and 5. David also attended Mauta Primary before being invited to attend GGCC. David’s younger sibling, Dellan, is not yet old enough to go school.

Due to the dire situation this family has faced, David was admitted to GGCC in 2022 in grade 3 as a vulnerable child. His father is so grateful for the opportunity granted to David to learn at GGCC. David likes the school and the quality of education being offered. He also likes the spiritual nourishment which he gets daily.

At GGCC, David will learn without the fear of missing school because of lack of payment or scholastic materials. This will help him to concentrate on his studies and be able to work toward his dream of becoming a doctor. He is in good health.
