Cavin was born in 2007 and comes from Kaswanga Village of Mfangano Island. He is the oldest child in a family of two children. Cavin’s father’s name is Stephen Okello and his mother’s name is Caroline. Cavin currently lives with his mother Caroline as his father is separated from the family. He does not offer any form of support to Cavin or his sibling. His mother does her best to take care of the children by farming the land around them. This does not usually earn enough for her to support them, so she completes odd jobs, like burning charcoal to supplement. However, this is prohibited by the government and puts her family at risk.

Cavin has some medical challenges that adds to the level of vulnerability this family faces. Not only does the mother worry about being able to pay for Cavin and his sibling’s school fees, but she must make sure she has the medication for Cavin and keep him on the right treatment schedule.

Cavin was learning at Kagungu Primary School before joining GGCC. He completed the 8^th grade there and scored 302 on his 8^th grade national exam, earning him the opportunity to join GGCC. His younger sister, Wendy Mourine Atieno is in grade 2 at Kagungu Primary School.  

Cavin was admitted to GGCC in 2022 in grade 9 as a vulnerable child. He is so grateful, as is his mother, to join GGCC. He likes the school environment which is conducive for learning as well as the quality education being offered. Cavin will have the opportunity while at GGCC to concentrate on his studies, not worrying about not having the things he needs to learn. He will get three meals a day, which he was sometimes without at home. He will also have the support and oversight to make sure he adheres to his medication and treatment schedule.  And finally, he will receive the spiritual nourishment and training that will go with him throughout his life.

Cavin likes athletics and his favorite subject is history. Cavin would like to become a lawyer.
