Walter was born in Wakinga village, in Mfangano East location on Mfangano Island.  There are three children in his family with Walter being the middle child. His father passed away from HIV/AIDS, leaving Walter and his siblings under the care of their mother.  She does not have any formal training or employment and struggles to provide the most basic of needs for her children.

Walter’s oldest brother Silphanus was able to finish grade 12 only through the help of extended relatives and well-wishers. He struggled with attending regularly because of the insufficient funds and missed a lot of school but was able to preserve and finish high school. Walter’s mother still struggles greatly to provide just food for the family, so it was a great relief to her when Walter was admitted to GGCC in 2022. He joins the 2^nd grade. Walter’s youngest sibling, Catherine is in grade PP1 when she is able to attend.

Walter is happy to join GGCC and especially loves the boarding aspect of the school. He no longer fears being sent home for lack of payment or attending school without proper clothes or shoes. He will have all that he needs to learn, including 3 meals a day and the school materials he needs. He likes the school environment which is so conducive for learning. He will be able to concentrate on his studies and work towards his goal of become an engineer. His best subject is language, English and Kiswahili. During his leisure time, he likes playing soccer. Walter has an eye problem.
