School Grade 9

Scovian is the oldest child in a family of three children. She was born in 2010 in Temo Village on Rusinga Island. Both of her parents are alive. Scovian’s father is a pastor in a local church and also a peasant farmer. Her mother does not work outside the home. The main source of income is from the farming, which is seasonal and weather dependent. Farming alone does not produce enough income to support the family. They have often struggled to put food on the table. And there were times they could not afford to pay the school fees. Scovian would have to miss classes until her father was able to come up with the money to send her back. Her academic performance has suffered because of the disruption in her education.

Scovian’s sister, Velma Akoth, is learning at Temo Primary School in grade 3, while her brother, Emmanuel Gift, is in grade PP2. Scovian was also learning at Temo Primary School before joining GGCC.

Scovian was admitted to GGCC in August of 2021 in grade 7. Her parents are so grateful to the management for giving their daughter a chance to learn at GGCC. Scovian is equally excited about learning without interruption at GGCC. She will be able to concentrate in her studies and work towards her goal of becoming a doctor. She will also be guaranteed to get the proper nutrition she was not getting consistently at home.  During her leisure time, Scovian likes playing soccer. She is in good health.
