Meroline was born in 2012 in Rinya village, Mfangano West location. She is the second born in a family of four children. Her father died and left Meroline and her siblings under the care of their mother who does odd jobs to feed her family. After the death of Meroline’s father, who was the sole breadwinner, life was very difficult for the family. Meroline’s mother is not mentally stable, has health challenges, and does not have a steady job. She works odd jobs like fetching firewood or weeding for others, which usually does not provide enough income to meet the family’s needs. Sometimes the family is only able to have porridge for a meal.

On many occasions, the children would have to miss school because she couldn’t afford the school fees. And more recently, their house fell down, forcing them to live with a neighbor until their relatives could get another house built.

Meroline’s oldest sibling, Florence, is learning at Siburi Secondary school by the help of her mother’s relatives. The third born, Meshack, is learning at Rinya primary school in KG1, while the fourth born, Tobias, is not old enough to attend school. Before joining GGCC, Meroline was learning at Rinya Primary school.

Meroline was admitted to GGCC in January of 2019 in grade 1 as an orphaned and vulnerable child. She is so grateful to God for the opportunity she has gotten to get quality education. While at GGCC, she will get all the three meals and will no longer miss classes due to lack of levies. She likes the school compound and plays well with her peers.

During her leisure time, she likes playing with her peers on the swings as well as playing football. She would like to work hard to become a nurse.
