Mercyvenda N. 1675

Grade Female: Kindergarten - 8th Gr.

School Grade 3

Mercyvenda is the oldest child in her family of three children. She was born on June 18, 2014 in Wamai village, Mfangano South location. Her father died and left she and her siblings under the care of their mother who farms in order to support her family. However, peasant farming is not a sustainable or reliable source of income. Mercyvenda and her siblings have struggled mightily in just getting their basic needs met. Food and money for education were a struggle for Mercyvenda’s mother. Two meals a day and sometimes only porridge for lunch happened more often than not. Being sent home from school for lack of materials or payment was also normal for them.

When they are able to attend school, all three children attend St. Mary’s Wamai School. Mercyvenda’s sister Hellen and her brother Philop are both in grade PP2. Mercyvenda was admitted to GGCC in 2022 in grade 1 as an orphaned and vulnerable child. Her mother is so grateful to God for the opportunity granted to her to learn at GGCC. Mercyvenda is equally happy and excited about her admission to GGCC.

She will learn without interruption or fear of being sent home from school because of lack of school levies or scholastic materials. She will get all three meals a day. This will help her to concentrate on her studies and meet her goals of becoming a doctor in the future. During her leisure time, Mercyvenda likes playing netball with her siblings. She is in good health.
