Melvin’s mother has some mental challenges and when she was just 13 years old, she was involved in a situation that led her to get pregnant. The father was unknown and not involved with the family after the incident and Melvin was born to a single mother. She had to drop out of school, not even able to finish middle school. Melvin and her mom lived with the grandparents for a time while they were able to work and support the family. However, Melvin’s grandparents have some health challenges that have caused them to be unable to maintain employment, so an uncle has stepped in to help bear the burden. Unfortunately, with his own family to care for, Melvin’s uncle was not always able to pay school fees on time and Melvin ended up missing classes for lack of payment.

Melvin was learning at Kakrigu Primary School before joining GGCC. Melvin was admitted to GGCC in August of 2021 in grade 3 as vulnerable child. Her admission to GGCC has brought great relief to her family. They are so appreciative to the GGCC management for the opportunity granted to Melvin to learn at GGCC, for both the academic rigor as well as the assurance that she will be taken care of. At GGCC, Melvin will learn without missing classes due to lack of school levies or scholastic materials. She is so happy to join GGCC and would like to work hard to become a doctor when she grows up.

Melvin is fond of her fellow pupils and during her leisure time she likes knitting and singing. She is in good health.
