Brighton O. 1280

Grade Male: Kindergarten - 8th Gr.

School Grade 6

Brighton is the youngest in a family of five children, with 2 girls and 3 boys. He was born in Nyahera village of Mfangano south Location. His father died shortly before he was born so he unfortunately does not know his father.

The eldest sibling, Esther, is married. The second born, Festus, dropped out of school in grade six moved to Makende, a village in Kaksingri East location where he is living with an Aunt. The third born, Valery, is in grade 6 at GGA. The fourth born, Fidel, is enrolled at Butanda in Lolwe Uganda in grade 5.

Brighton’s mother ran off to Uganda in 2010 taking Brighton with her.  She has no intention of returning to Kenya. An uncle was concerned for Brighton and tracked the mom down. He brought Brighton back to Kenya to live with him.

Brighton’s uncle has seven of his own children to take care of and is weighed down by the cost and demands of this large family. Providing meals and also meeting their educational needs has really been a big challenge. The children have been sent home from school for levies and it would take the uncle several days before he could make a payment for them to return. It was a huge relief for the family for Brighton to be admitted to GGCC.

Brighton was admitted in January of 2018 as an orphaned and vulnerable child. He is thankful that he has be reunited with his big sister, Valarie, at GGCC and knows he can learn in an environment, free from interruptions. Brighton would like to work hard to become an electrician.

He likes playing football and singing with his peers.
