School Grade 1

Zil is the second born child in a family of three children. She was born in 2017 in Uozi Village of Mfangano Island to her father Erick and mother Juliet. Zil’s mother died while giving birth to her 4^th child. The baby died as well.  Zil together with her two siblings were left under the care of her father who is the breadwinner. Zil’s siblings are Hazel, in grade six, and Joy in grade PP2.

Zil’s father moved around a lot for work, leaving the children with the grandmother. She struggled to provide for the children in his absence. Zil’s father remarried and unfortunately, the stepmother was hostile towards the children. So, they remained in the care of the struggling grandmother. The father sought admission to GGCC for Zil. She was previously learning at Uozi Primary School.

Zil was admitted to GGCC in 2024 in grade 1 as an orphaned and vulnerable child. She is so happy to be at GGCC together with her younger sister, Joy.  She is optimistic that she can work towards her dream of studying to become a doctor. She will learn without interruption, and she will have three meals a day. The father is grateful as well for this is a big relief for him. Zil likes the school environment which is so conducive for learning. During her leisure time, she likes playing soccer and skipping rope. She is in good health.
