William was born in 2006 and comes from Kitenyi Village of Mfangano Island. William is the second born in a family of five children. His father’s name is Isaiah and his mother’s name is Brenda. William currently lives with both of his parents. His father is the breadwinner of the family and goes fishing to provide for their children at home. Fishing is seasonal and unpredictable. This often puts the family at risk and they have struggled to meet the most basic of needs. In addition, both of his parents have health challenges, which presents a different challenge. If they are unable to maintain their medication and drug treatment, they find themselves sick and unable to care for their family. At times, the family only takes two meals a day because there just isn’t enough.

William’s older brother, Elly, has returned home to live with his family. His younger siblings all attend Kitenyi Primary. His brother Rooney is in grade 3. His sister, Kezia is in grade 1 and Teddy is in grade PP1. William was also learning at Kitenyi Primary School before joining GGCC.

William joined GGCC in 2022 in grade 9. His father is paying half of the school fee. William is so happy to join GGCC and with this opportunity to learn without fear. He says he has regained hope for a better future. William will get all three meals a day at GGCC and be able to concentrate on his studies. William likes swimming and his favorite subject is mathematics. William would love to be an engineer in the future.
