Whitney A. 1870

Grade Female: Kindergarten - 8th Gr.

School Grade 3

Whitney is the eighth born child in a family of nine children. She was born in 2015 in Ragwe Village. Both of her parents are alive. Her father is a fisherman but does not own his own equipment or boat. He fishes in other’s boats, which is not a sustainable way to provide for such a large family. Whitney’s mom does not work outside of the home. Because of the large family size and the limited income, this family struggles to meet the basic needs of food and clothing.  Paying for school fees is not always an option, and the children have missed a lot of school.

Her two oldest sisters, Eunice and Mildred, are both married. Mildren dropped out of school before finishing because they could not afford to send her to school.  Joseph Okinyi is in form three at Tonga Secondary School. Lavin Akumu is also in form three a, but at Rangwe Mixed Secondary.  Stecy has finished 8th grade but has not joined a high school. Benard is joining a junior secondary, Samson has not yet joined St Joseph Junior Secondary School, while the last born Elmas Bruno is in grade three at Rangwe Primary School. Whitney was learning in Ragwe primary school before joining GGCC.

Whitney was admitted to GGCC in 2024 in grade three as a vulnerable child. She, together with her parents, are very grateful for the opportunity granted to her as this is a great relief for the family. She likes the school environment which is so conducive for learning.  She likes her fellow pupils and the teachers who are so friendly.

At GGCC, Whitney will take all three meals which she was missing at home. She will not miss classes again due to lack of school levies and scholastic materials. This will help her concentrate on her studies and achieve her life’s dream of becoming a teacher. She promises to work hard in school. Whitney is in good health. She likes playing ball games with her fellow pupils.
