Wendy A. 1647

Grade Female: Kindergarten - 8th Gr.

School Grade 4

Wendy was born on August 26, 2012 in Migori County. She is the youngest child in a family of two girls. Her father passed away in 2014 when she was still very young. Wendy and her sister Mitchelle were left under the care of their mother. Her mother does not have formal employment and does casual jobs like washing clothes and utensils for others to earn a living. Unfortunately, this is not usually enough to provide for the most basic of needs, like food, for her family. There have been times when the family has enough for one meal a day and sometimes only porridge. The mother has also had a very difficult time with her mother-in-law that has forced them to move around. The unstable nature of their home life has caused both girls to suffer greatly. Attending school regularly was difficult as the family could not stay in one place long because of the threats from the extended family.

Mitchelle is learning at Wakula Primary School now in grade 7. Wendy was learning at Wakula Primary also before joining GGCC. Wendy was admitted to GGCC in grade 2 as an orphaned and vulnerable child. Her mother is grateful for the opportunity for one of her children to attend school regularly in a safe environment.  She also has the assurance that Wendy will one day excel in life and be able to help support her family.

Wendy is equally happy to be at GGCC. She likes the school compound and her fellow pupils who are so friendly. She likes the boarding aspect of the school. She will be able to learn without interruption. She can focus on her academics and work towards her goals of becoming a nurse. Wendy likes playing netball and also has a passion for cooking.  She loves praising God with songs.
