Vincent O. 1690

Grade Male: 9th - 12th Gr.

School Grade 9

Vincent was born in 2009 in Wakiangata village, Mfangano North location. He is the first-born child in a family of three children. Both of his parents are alive, however, Vincent and one of his siblings are raising themselves. Vincent’s mother deserted the family, taking one child with her but leaving two of the children with their father. Unfortunately, this situation is not better. His father struggles with alcoholism and cannot be counted on to provide consistently for his children. When Vincent’s father is sober, he helps the local fishermen. He does not have his own equipment and if they catch is low, he usually does not make enough money to provide for his children’s needs. Vincent’s father faces additional health challenges. He is sick a lot and unable to work. Most recently, his father was found guilty of stealing and is now incarcerated.

Vincent and his brother have struggled more than any children should. Relatives, neighbors and well wishers have stepped in to help when they can, but Vincent has very little money or time for school. He is often taking care of his brother and providing what support he can in taking care of themselves.

Thankfully, Vincent’s brother, Wingfield was enrolled at GGCC in 2020. He is now in grade 2. That was a huge relief to Vincent. But now it’s his turn and Vincent gets to join him at GGCC. He was admitted in 2022 in grade 7. Vincent is so excited and happy to join GGCC, a school he has always admired. Now he is sure that his life will be changed forever. He likes the boarding school where he can get all three meals and be able to get a quality education.

Vincent would like to work hard to become a lawyer.  During his leisure time, he likes playing soccer with his peers. He is in good health.
