Tom O. 1672

Grade Male: Kindergarten - 8th Gr.

School Grade 1

Tom was born in 2015 in Ramba village, Mfangano North location. He is the youngest child in a family of four children. His father passed away, leaving he and his siblings under the care of the mother. Tom being the youngest at the time has probably suffered the most. Although Tom’s mother works as an Early Child Development Education teacher, she often does not make enough to take care of her family properly. Being left a single parent, she has struggled to work and provide for her children. Tom is often sick and requires her to be at home with him or for her to seek out medical attention for him, thus causing her to miss work, and increasing the struggle they face. Relatives have helped when they are able, but this is not always positive or consistent.

Their financial situation and Tom’s health issues have caused him to miss a lot of school. Tom’s performance has suffered. He often did not eat properly or have the uniforms or materials to attend school. His older siblings have fared a little better. The oldest, Tyrus, was able to complete college. The second born Joylin is currently in college, while the third born, Sam is in grade 10 at Nyatoto Secondary School. Tom was previously learning at Ramba Primary School before joining GGCC.

Tom was admitted to GGCC in 2022 in PP1 as an orphaned and vulnerable child. His mother is so grateful to God for the chance given to Tom to join GGCC. Tom is equally happy to learn in a boarding school. He likes the school environment, and is assured that he will receive 3 meals a day and the materials he needs to learn at school. He will also have the support of the staff at GGCC with any medical issues he may face. He won’t be sent home for lack of payment and Tom can concentrate on his work.  He would like to become an engineer. He loves music and creative arts.
