School Grade 11

Steve was born in 2006 and comes from Kakiimba Village of Mfangano Island. Steve is the fourth born child in a family of six children. Steve currently lives with his mother Judith as his father passed away. His mother does peasant farming to provide for her children, but often times this does not produce enough for her to provide for her family. There was often not enough food for three meals a day and paying for school fees only happened when they were able to afford it. Steve missed classes when they didn’t have the money to send him. This adversely affected his academic performance. They often depend on their extended family and friends to help them with the basics.

Three of Steve’s older siblings, Kevin, Scovia and Derick, attend college with the help from others. Steve’s younger brother, Griffins, attends GGCC and is in grade 6. The youngest sibling, Harmony, is in PP1 at Kakiimba Primary School. Steve was learning at Kakiimba Primary school before joining GGCC where he sat for his grade 8 national exams.

Steve joined GGCC in 2022 in grade 9 as an orphaned and vulnerable child. His mother is grateful for the opportunity granted to her son to learn at GGCC.  While at GGCC, Steve will not face the challenges he faced for food. Steve will not miss classes due to lack of school levies. This will help him to concentrate on his studies and work towards his dream of becoming an engineer. Steve likes playing basketball and his favorite subject is mathematics.
