Stephen O. 1731

Grade Male: 9th - 12th Gr.

School Grade 11

Stephen was born in 2008 and comes from Kaswanga Village in the Soklo Plateau of Mfangano Island. He is the fourth born child in a family of six children. Stephen currently lives with his father who is the breadwinner of the family and works as a peasant farmer in order to provide for Stephen and his siblings. Stephen is a partial orphan as his mother passed away in 2016. Because his father is the only provider, he often struggles to meet the most basic needs of his children. Food can be scarce, because peasant farming is unpredictable and does not produce enough food to sell and to eat. There were times when this family only had one meal a day, and sometimes only porridge. Stephen has also missed school quite a bit when they didn’t have the money to pay for him to attend.

Stephen’s oldest brother, Linus, attends Sikri College pursuing a degree in civil engineering. The second born, Ivaomi attends Atela Mixed Secondary and is in grade 12. Lovine, the third born, is already married. Stephen’s younger siblings, Reagan and Ronald, are in grade PP2 at GGCC. Stephen was learning at Kagungu Primary School before joining GGCC.

Stephen joined GGCC in 2022 in grade 9 as an orphaned and vulnerable child. His father is grateful for this opportunity provided for Stephen. Stephen is also happy and excited to join GGCC. He says that his life will not be the same again. He will not only get an excellent education but will also grow spiritually. He likes the teachers’ commitment and the academic atmosphere at GGCC. Stephen likes playing soccer and his favorite subject is biology. He reports he would like to be a doctor in the future.
