School Grade 8

Simon is the youngest child in a family of seven children, 4 girls and three boys. He was born in 2005 in Mulundu village, Mfangano West location. When his father died, Simon’s mother was responsible for caring for the seven children without a steady income.

His elder sibling, Quinter, completed her grade 12 national exams in 2013 at Wasamo Girls Secondary School, but has yet to further her education. The second born, Edith, is married. The third born, Lencer, is learning at Wasamo Girls Secondary school in grade 12. The last three, Melvin, Clivoris, and Michael, are learning at Wasamo primary school in grades 5, KG2, and KG1. Simon was also learning at Wasamo primary school before joining GGCC.

After the death of the father, the mother was forced to make tough decisions. Helping fishermen when she could, never provided enough money for her family. She had to rely on the sympathy and generosity of well-wishers to help her older children continue their education. She used what income she had to send the younger children to school.  She has since taken a job as a maid.

While at home, Simon sleeps on a mat where he shares bedding with his siblings.

Simon was admitted to GGCC in January of 2017 as orphaned and vulnerable child. He is so happy to join GGCC. He would like to work hard to become a doctor when he grows up. He loves playing football with his peers.

Update Dec 2017- Simon placed 8th in his class of 24. He enjoys his math class.
