Sheryl was born in 2010 in Mauta village, Mfangano South location. She is the third born in their family of 5 children. However, her older two siblings have died, and now she is the eldest. She has two younger siblings. Sheryl’s father also has passed away. Sheryl’s mother is the care taker and breadwinner for the family although she faces her own health challenges.

Sheryl’s brother Fredrick Otieno, is in KG1 at Mauta primary, while the last born, Matabel, is not old enough for school yet.

Sheryl has faced a lot of challenges at home. Her mother, who is a casual laborer, could not provide all the basic needs for Sheryl and her siblings due to the little income she made. Paying for Sheryl’s school levies and buying her uniform was difficult. She would often be sent home for levies and would stay home for some time before the mother would get enough money to send her back. She was formerly learning at Mauta primary school.

Sheryl was vetted to join GGCC in January of 2018 as an orphaned and vulnerable child in KG3. She feels happy to be part of the Gethsemane family and promises to work hard to achieve her goal of becoming a doctor. Her motheris also grateful to the administration for considering her daughter for GGCC.     

During her leisure time, Sheryl likes playing football with her peers. She also likes watching volleyball.

Sheryl is prone to Malaria.
