School Grade 4

Samwel is the fourth born child in a family of five children. He was born in 2012 in Nyakweri village, Mfangano North location. His father passed away, leaving Samwel and his siblings under the care of their mother who is a peasant farmer, but also has some health challenges. When she is able, she fetches firewood to sell to earn additional income. However, both of these opportunities usually don’t bring in enough money to support the needs of this family. They are only able to take two meals a day and even then it’s sometime just porridge. Samwel’s mother does her best, but is unable to consistently pay the school fees for the children. They have had to miss school because of this. Life has been difficult for this family.

Samwel’s oldest sibling, Benard, is leanring at Nyakweri Secondary in Form 2. The other three children Saline and Winnie and Mary, are learning at Nyakweri Primary School in grades 6, 5 and PP2, respectivelyl.

Samwel was also learning at Nyakweri Primary School before joining GGCC where he was in grade 1.  

He was admitted to GGCC in January of 2020 as orphaned and vulnerable child. He is so happy to join GGCC. His mother is also very grateful to God. He likes the school compound, the teachers, and his fellow pupils.

At GGCC, Samwel will learn without the fear of being sent home for school levies and scholastic materials.  He will get all three meals daily and sleep well. This will help Samwel to concentrate on his academics and improve his performance. Samwel would like to work hard to become a teacher. During his leisure time, he likes playing soccer with his peers. Samwel is in good health.
