Samora B. 1189

Grade Male: 9th - 12th Gr.

School Grade 12

Samora is the second born in a family of four children. He was born in 2006 in Sindo village, Kaksingri East Location in Central Division. His father died in January of 2017 leaving Samora and his siblings under the care of the mother who is a small scale fish monger.

Samora’s older sibling, Claudine, is learning at Golden and Springs Academy in grade 7. The younger two, Benard and Keithy, are both learning at Suba Adventist School in grades 2 and KG1, respectively.

Life has not been easy since the death of Samora’s father. He was the bread winner, but with his illness, a lot of the family’s finances went to cover the cost of his treatment. Samora’s mother’s meager income was not enough to overcome the challenges they faced. She was unable to provide for the basic needs like food for her large family, much less the educational needs for all four children.

While at home, Samora sleeps in his mother’s iron roofed, mud walled shelter on a bed and covers himself with a bed sheet.

Samora was admitted to GGCC in February of 2017 in grade 5 as an orphaned and vulnerable child. He is happy to be at GGCC, a place where he will learn without worry. He will be able to concentrate on his studies as well as enjoy three meals a day.

Samora would like to work hard to become a doctor. He loves playing volleyball and football during his leisure time.

Update, November 2017:

Samora is doing well at GGCC where he appreciates the food, respect and education provided.  He placed 14th in his class of 60 students.  Samora enjoys his social studies class and hopes to be an engineer in the future.  When he returns to his village on breaks, he attends a Seventh Day Adventist church.  In his free time, Samora enjoys playing soccer.
