Ozil is the only child of his mother. He was born in 2014 in Kakiimba village, Mfangano North location in Mfangano Island. Both of his parents are alive but are separated and Ozil has been staying with his father and stepmother who have 3 additional children. His father is a peasant father and often doesn’t make enough to sustain his family’s most basic needs like food and shelter. He also has health problems that keep him from working as much as he’d like. Money is also used to help pay for medications. They currently live in an unfinished home because his father has not been able to afford to finish it. They often only can have two meals a day and have relied on neighbors for some of those meals.

One of Ozil’s older stepbrothers dropped out of school because of their situation. Another of his stepbrothers is trying to continue on with college but has missed semesters when they couldn’t afford to pay for school. Ozil has one stepbrother in grade 6.

Ozil was learning at Kakiimba Primary School before joining GGCC. He was admitted to GGCC as a vulnerable child. His admission is a great relief to the family and Ozil is thrilled to have the opportunity to learn at a great school, where he will have proper shelter, three meals a day and consistency in his learning. He is now sure of his education. He likes the school environment, the teachers and his fellow pupils who are so friendly. Ozil would like to become a teacher when he grows up. He is in good health.
