Ningel is the second born child in a family of four children, a boy and three girls. She was born in 2011 at Gulwe village, in Mfangano West location. Both of her parents passed away from HIV/AIDS and left Ningel and her siblings under the care of her aged maternal grandmother. However, she could not take care of sufficiently, so they went to live with their paternal grandmother. She is unable to work a lot, so a cousin has stepped in to help as well.  Ningel’s cousin is also pretty young and only does peasant farming for livelihood. The rains really determine how successful he is, and sometimes they depend on the assistance of well wishers.

Ningel’s elder sibling, Faith Muthoni, is learning at Gulwe primary in grade 8. The third born, Brent Triveli, is also learning at Gulwe primary in KG2 and the last born, Luamlian, has not started school.

While at home, Ningel sleeps in her grandmother’s house on a mat and covers herself with a blanket, which they share. She takes two to three meals depending on the availability.

Ningel was admitted to GGCC as an orphaned and vulnerable child in January of 2018. She was admitted in KG3. She is happy to be in GGA because now she know she will receive a good education in addition to taking 3 meals daily.

Ningel would like to work hard to become a doctor. During her free time, she loves watching football and volleyball.

Even though Ningel’s parents died from HIV/AIDs, she is not HIV positive. She is healthy and does not have any health complications.
