Nickley O. 1263

Grade Male: Kindergarten - 8th Gr.

School Grade 8

Nickley was born in 2006 at Uozi village, Wakula North sub location, Mfangano West location. He is the third born in a family of six children. Both of his parents are alive, although the father is old and sick. His mother who is a peasant farmer is the sole bread winner.

Nickley’s first and second born siblings, Elvis Owuato and Felix Owuato, are both in grade 7 at Uozi primary school. The fourth born, Beafon Owuato is at Wasamo primary in grade 1, while the next born, Lister Kerubo, is learning at Sango Academy in Homa bay. She is in grade KG3. The last-born, Brighton, is still a baby and is not old enough for school yet.

Nickley faced many challenges while at home. The father has been ill for several years and unable to contribute financially for his family. Being the sole bread winner with little income, Nickley’s mother could not meet most of the children’s need, including paying for the children’s school fees. Nickley was often sent home from school and unable to return for some time. Getting all the three meals a day rarely happens. Even though the mother sells firewood to support her family, she often has to spend that money on medications for her husband.

Nickley was vetted as a vulnerable child to join GGA in January of 2018. He was admitted in grade two. He is very happy and optimistic. He is now sure of being in school with less worries of being sent home for school levies. He likes the school environment and promises to work hard to bring hope to their family. He would like to be a teacher.

During his leisure time, Nickley enjoys playing with his peers. He loves watching football as well.
