Grade Male: Kindergarten - 8th Gr.

School Grade 4

Nicholas is the second born child in a family of four children. He was born in 2005 in Sena village, Mfangano East location. His father died suddenly after falling ill and being admitted to the hospital. It was such a short sickness that resulted in his death, that the family was very shocked. Nicholas now lives with his mother in a small tin house on the nearby beach. His mother has to wake up early and sell in a food kiosk so as to provide for the family’s needs. Unfortunately, this produces less than a dollar wage, which has limited the access that her children have to food as well as educational opportunities. With her current income, she also struggles to sustain her health as she is HIV positive. Nicholas also has some health concerns as he is anemic. His mother can only afford two meals and sometime they only take porridge.

Nicholas’ older sister, Audrey, is learning at Wakiangata Primary School in grade 7, The third born, Joseph, is in baby class, while the fourth born, Elvis, is not old enough to attend school.  Before joining GGCC, Nicholas was learning at Wakiangata Primary School with his sister, in grade 1.

Nicholas was admitted to GGCC in January of 2020 in PP2 as an orphaned and vulnerable child.  Nicholas is grateful and excited to be in GGCC and expects to one day go to high school. He likes the school environment, especially the playground where he can play with his friends. Nicholas has the opportunity to just be a kid. He can learn without distraction or interruption and focus solely on learning. He will be able to take three meals a day, which will also help with his anemia.  Nicholas is optimistic that he will achieve his dream of one day being a radio presenter. His best subject is Mathematics and his hobbies are molding and playing construction.
