Nehemia was born in 2007 in Kakiimba village, in Mfagano North location. He is the third born child in a family of six children. Both of his parents are alive. His father who is the main caregiver is a fisherman, but doesn’t own his own equipment. He also struggles with alcoholism and often spends what little bit of money he makes on his drinking. Nehemia’s mother does not have a formal job, but works odd jobs, including burning charcoal which is illegal to help support her family. However, it’s never enough to both feed and educate the children. There are times when only one meal of porridge is available to the children. Well wishers and neighbors have stepped in to help when they could.

Nehemia’s oldest sibling, Melvin, dropped out of school at grade 5.  She is living at home. The second born sibling, Stacy, is learning at Masisi Primary School in grade 8. The fourth born sibling, Christine, is learning at Kakiimba Primary School in grade 5. The fifth and sixth born siblings, Julius and James, are learning at St. James in PP2 and PP1. Nehemia was attending Kakiimba Primary also before joining GGCC.

Nehemia sleeps at his step mother’s house who is separated from his dad, because the main house is in really bad shape. One of the walls is falling down around them. Nehemia has faced immeasurable challenges in his young life, but now he has been given a great opportunity to get an education that could change his future.

Nehemia is so happy to join GGCC. He has the opportunity through the boarding school to learn without interruption. He will have three meals a day and a safe place to sleep. He reports that he likes the school environment which is so conducive for learning. He also likes the teachers and his fellow pupils who are so friendly.
