Millicent is the only child in her family. She was born in 2008 in Makira village, Mfangano East location in Mfangano Division. She was born out of wedlock. Later her mother died and left Millicent under the care of her grandmother who sells groceries.

Millicent’s grandmother sometimes found it difficult to meet all of the school fee requirements. Millicent would attend school in a torn uniform until a well-wisher stepped in to help. Millicent had a hard time adjusting to the school environment and her academics suffered. Also, they’ve struggled with meeting basic needs. Depending on the season, Millicent takes 2 meals a day. Her grandmother does her best to provide what she can.

Before joining GGCC, she was learning at Kakrigu primary school in grade 2. Millicent was admitted to GGCC in January of 2017 as an orphaned and vulnerable child in grade 3. She is so happy to be at GGCC. She is much more comfortable and adjusting well. Her grandmother is also very grateful to the management for considering Millicent for acceptance.

Update, November 2017:  Millicent placed 29th in her class of 41 students.  She loves her math and Bible classes and wants to be a teacher in the future.  Millicent loves the Lord and attends a catholic church when she returns to her village on breaks. She has some eye problems.  In her free time, Millicent loves playing soccer with her friends.

She joined GGCC in 2017 in grade 3 as Millicent Achieng Ooko, she later changed her name to Maryclarent Akinyi but she is one person. I have attached her original profile with her profile photo beside. The picture on top is her current picture. She is currently in grade 6.
