School Grade 8

Marion is the last born in a family of six children. She was born in 2009 at Wakula village in Mfangano Division. Both of her parents passed on when Marion was very young, leaving her under the care of relatives.

With the death of both parents and no income for their family, Marion’s oldest three siblings dropped out of school and got married. The fourth born sibling, Conslata is learning at Wakula Secondary school in grade 12. The fifth born sibling, Samuel, is learning at Rinya Primary school in grade five.

Marion’s attendance in school was sporadic and her performance poor. Not only was she struggling to stay in school, but she often did not have enough to eat at home.

While at home, Marion sleeps in an iron roofed, mud wall house on a mat and covers herself with an old blanket.

Marion was admitted to GGCC in January of 2017 as an orphaned and vulnerable child.  Marion is so thankful to be joining GGCC.  The serene environment, the good food and the loving population has added hope and value to her life. By God’s grace her life will never be the same again.

Her ambition is to become to a nurse and help the sick in her community. Her best subjects are Mathematics and English. Marion likes playing football also.

Update, November 2017:

Marion has placed 12th in her class of 34 students.  She loves English class and wants to fly a helicopter when she is older.  Marion is saved and attends a Catholic church when she goes back to her village.  Marion loves to play the simple games such as jumping rope or hopscotch.
