Lavendar O. 1142

Grade Female: 9th - 12th Gr.

School Grade 9

Lavendar is the second born in a family of 4 children. She was born in 2006 in Wakiangata village, Waware sub location, Mfangano North location. Her father died in 2010 and left Lavendar and her siblings under the care of her mother who is just a peasant farmer.

Lavendar’s elder sibling, Felix, completed grade 8 in 2016 and obtained 202 marks. He has yet to join a high school. The third and fourth born, Nickel and Abraham, are both in KG2 at Wakiangata primary school.

Life has not been easy for Lavendar and her siblings. Her mother, who is the sole breadwinner, could not provide all the basic needs for her family due to her meager income. Sometimes she fetches firewood and sells it in order to supplement the family’s income. Paying school levies for her children was also a challenge as Lavendar would be sent home frequently because she did not have the money. They would only get two meals a day and sometimes only take porridge when things were really bad.

Lavendar sleeps in her mother’s iron roofed, mud walled house on a mat and covers herself with a bed sheet.

Lavendar was learning at Wakiangata primary school where she was in grade 2 before joining GGCC in January of 2017. After vetting her, she was placed in grade 1 and was admitted as an orphaned and vulnerable child.  She is so happy to join GGCC and promises to work hard so as to become a doctor or pilot. She believes that with God’s help, her life will never be the same again.

Updated Dec. 2017- She has placed 3rd out of 38 students in her class. She likes playing soccer and also with her friends.
