School Grade 8

Joyce is the first born in a family of 3 children. She was born in Kibuogi Island Nyamrisra sub location. Her father who was a fish monger died in 2009 and left Joyce and her other siblings under the care of her mother who fishes in other people’s nets in order to feed her family.

Joyce has two siblings namely, Donesia and Snyder. Donesia is in KG1 while Snyder is still a baby. Joyce’s mother does not have a steady income as she only drys ‘dagaa’ for people and also fish in other people’s beach seine in order to feed her family. Joyce had difficulty with her learning since she was often sent home from school due to lack of school fees.

While at home, Joyce lives in an iron roofed house mud wall. She takes 2 meals a day, sleeps on a mat and covers self with a bed sheet. 

Joyce was enrolled in GGCC in January 2015 in KG2 after being selected by the vetting committee. She is happy to join GGCC where she will learn without any interruptions and take three meals daily. 

She is hopeful in life and she would like to become a teacher when she grows up. She loves playing netball although she complains of chest pains.
