School Grade 6

Joshua is the second born in a family of three children. He was born on April 12, 2006 at Nyawalongo village, Wakula North sub location in Mfangano West Location. His father died leaving he and his sisters under the care of the mother.

The oldest, Roseline, is enrolled in GGCC in grade 6, while the youngest, Junior Deverence, is learning at Mawanga primary school in a preschool class. Joshua was formerly learning at Mawanga primary school.

In early 2015, Joshua’s mother eloped with another man and took Joshua and his younger brother to the neighboring country of Tanzania. They stayed for almost two years but were not enrolled in school. Joshua’s grandfather was concerned for his grandchildren and sought help from a friend who went to Tanzania and brought Joshua and his siblings back to Mfangano Island.

Joshua now lives with his ailing grandfather who does not have any income. He depends on donations from well wishers. Joshua could not attend school regularly due to lack of school levies and would often go to school on an empty stomach. Getting school materials like pens and books was also a challenge. 

Joshua joined GGCC in January of 2017 as an orphaned and vulnerable child and in KG3. He is happy to join GGCC, a place without worries. He will receive 3 meals a day and won’t be sent home for lack of payment. Joshua’s grandfather is so grateful to the administration for considering his grandson.

Update, November 2017: 

Joshua has been flourishing at GGA and place 2nd in his class of 24.  He likes his math class and hopes to be a pilot when he grows up. When he returns to his village on break, he goes to a catholic church; he is saved! Joshua loves playing volleyball in his free time.
