School Grade 8

Joseph is the first born child in a family of three children. He was born in Kiwari village, Mfangano West location in 2012. Although both of his parents are living, it has been a very difficult upbringing for Joseph and his family. Joseph’s father was abusive and neglectful towards the mother and children. There are reports that the father beat Joseph’s mother and left them without food. Joseph’s father has since deserted the family, which forced the mother to move back to her paternal home. Joseph’s grandmother has been doing her best to help with the family, but this family lives in great poverty.

The family is only able to take two meals a day. Joseph has gone to school with torn uniforms and no schools and when there wasn’t enough money to pay for school, Joseph would have to miss school. When he was able to attend school, he was enrolled at Kiwari Primary School in grade 4.

The second born sibling, Paulet, is learning at Kiwari Primary School in PP2. The third born, Avril, is also learning at Kiwari Primary School in PP1.

Joseph was vetted and admitted to GGCC in January of 2020 as vulnerable child. He is so happy to join GGCC. His grandmother is so grateful to God and to the administration for granting Joseph this opportunity to learn. Joseph likes the school compound, the teachers and his fellow pupils. He also enjoys the resources such as morning and evening prep classes where he can work with the teachers.  This was not available at his former school.

At GGCC, he will learn without further interference with his education for lack of school levies, uniforms and other scholastic materials.  Joseph will get all three meals which he was missing at home. This will help Joseph to work hard and achieve his life dream of becoming a teacher. His best subject is Mathematics.  Joseph has some health challenges with malaria.
