School Grade 5

Javan is the second born child in a family of four children. He was born in 2013 in Takawiri Island, Mfangano East location. Javan and his older sister were born to his mother while she was unmarried. She has since married and both Javan’s mother and stepfather are living. However, Javan’s stepfather does not treat or support Javan as his own child. In addition to the difficult family dynamics, the family faces health challenges. 

Javan has grown up in a very hostile and difficult situation. His mother works helping other fishermen to help support Javan, because his stepfather will not support him. His mother also does her best to provide the medication and treatment that Javan needs, but that isn’t as consistent as it should be. Javan’s family struggles to pay for school as well as put food on the table. They struggle to provide just the basics.

Javan’s oldest sister, Mitchell, is learning at Takawiri Primary School in grade 7. The third born is also learning at Takawiri Primary School in PP1. Both Javan and the youngest sibling were learning at Takawiri Hope Christian school, where Javan was in grade 2.

Javan was admitted to GGCC in August of 2021 in grade 2 as a vulnerable child. He together with his mother are so grateful for the opportunity he has been given to learn at GGCC. This is a great relief for his mother who has been struggling to provide for them. Javan likes the school environment, his fellow pupils and the teachers, who are so friendly. At GGCC, he will learn without missing classes and will also get all the three meals which he was missing at home. The house parents will help in administering his medications in a timely manner.

Javan would like to work hard to become a teacher when he grows up. During his leisure time, he likes playing with balls.
