School Grade 2

Jane was born in 2012 in Wakiangata village, Mfangano North location. She is the third born child in a family of four children. Her father died leaving Jane and her siblings under the care of their mother. Her mother works as a peasant farmer, but the seasonality and unpredictability of this job makes it very difficult for her to provide for her family. They often only have enough for two meals a day. Jane and her siblings have also missed school because they couldn’t afford to pay the school fees and buy the materials they needed. The interruption in attending school combined with the lack of food at home is not good for physical, social or academic growth.

When they can attend school, her elder siblings, twins Shadrack and Meshack are learning at Wakinagata Primary School in grades 3 and 2, respectively, while the youngest is not old enough to attend school yet.

Jane was also learning at Wakiangata Primary School before joining GGCC.

Jane was admitted to GGCC in 2022 in grade PP2 as an orphaned and vulnerable child. Her mother is so grateful to God for the opportunity granted to Jane to learn at GGCC. This is a big relief for her. Jane is so happy to join GGCC and she likes her fellow pupils who are so friendly.

At GGCC, Jane will get all three meals and will not be interrupted and miss classes due to lack of school levies. This will help her to learn and become a nurse when she grows up. During her leisure time, she likes playing netball and playing on the swings. Jane is in good health.
