School Grade 6

James was born in 2009 in Malamasa village, in Mfangano East location. He is the first-born child in a family of five children. His mother is a single parent and sole breadwinner for the family. However, she does not have formal employment, but works drying fish for others in order to put food on her table. Because this type of work is dependent on outside factors, such as weather and the amount of catch each day, James’ mother often does not make enough money to pay the rent on her small, tin roofed home as well as provide the most basic of necessities like food and education for her children. This family has struggled greatly. There have been times when porridge is the only option they have for a meal.

James and his siblings have attended school when their mother was able to afford to send them. Often times they would be sent home for lack of payment and miss time at school, falling further behind in their education. James’ brother Junior attends Uwuya Primary School in grade one. His sister, Evelyne is attending Humanist School in PP2. The fourth born, Bradon is also at Uyuwa Primary School in PP1 and the youngest child, Shalom is not old enough to attend school yet.

James was learning at Sena Primary School before joining GGCC. He was admitted into GGCC in 2022 in grade 4 as a vulnerable child. He is so happy and excited to learn at GGCC. His mother is also grateful as this is a great relief for her.  James likes the school environment, the teachers and the pupils who are so friendly.

At GGCC, James will learn without missing classes due to lack of scholastic materials and school fees. He will be able to concentrate on his studies and work towards his dream of becoming a doctor.  He will also not have to worry about food as he will receive three meals a day while in attendance at school.

During his leisure time, James likes playing soccer.  He is in good health.
