Ida O. 1173

Grade Female: Kindergarten - 8th Gr.

School Grade 8

Ida was born in 2007 in the village of Gulwe of Mfangano West. Her mother died and left Ida and her four siblings under the care of the father and his elder wife. Ida is the youngest in her family.

The eldest sibling, Dominic, is learning at Wakula Secondary School in grade 12. The three other siblings are all enrolled at Uozi Secondary school in grades 11, 10 and 4. Ida joined GGCC from Gulwe Primary School where she was in grade 2.

Ida lost her mother in 2013 from an HIV related infection. The father had no source of income and the elder wife, who is also their Aunt, took over the care of these children. She did not have children of her own. Ida was only 6 years old when her mother passed away. With the father’s lack of income, they struggled to put food on the table, much less keep the children in school.  Friends and relatives helped the family when they could.

Ida was admitted to GGCC in January of 2017 as orphaned and vulnerable child in grade 2. Ida’s family is very thankful to have her join GGCC. They are now optimistic that Ida, who is a hard worker, will continue on in meeting her goal of becoming a teacher. Her best subjects are CRE and Mathematics.

Ida likes playing with her friends, and is skilled in plaiting and weaving.

Update, November 2017:

Ida has placed 5th in her class of 38 students.  She loves studying and does very well in her Swahili class.  Ida hopes to be a teacher when she finishes school.  Ida loves Jesus very much and attends Christ Evangelical Church when she returns to her village.  In her free time, Ida loves playing soccer.
