Holymerit is the only child in her family. She was born in 2008 in Ragwe village, Kaksingri West location. Her mother died from HIV/AIDS when she was just 6 months old. Her father became so withdrawn and depressed after the mother’s death that Holymerit’s grandmother has taken over the responsibility of rearing her.

Holymerit’s grandmother also takes care of other children. She does not have a sufficient source of income. She completes odd jobs for money here and there, but nothing steady. What money she does make was put towards the older children’s high school education. What little school Holymerit was able to attend, was often interrupted because of lack of payment. Also getting three meals a day was a challenge for this family.

While at home, Holymerit stays with the grandmother in an unfinished brick walled house, where the roof is leaking. She shares a mat and old blanket with her cousins.

Holymerit joined GGCC in January of 2017 in KG3. She is excited to join the school. She will take three meals a day and doesn’t fear being sent home from school. Her hope is to improve her academic performance and work hard to become a doctor. She likes to play soccer.
