School Grade 6

Hillary is the youngest child in a family of 6 children. He was born in Kitenyi village, Mfangano East location in 2010. His father died while he was young, forcing his mother to be the sole income earner for the family. She has no specific training or skill for a regular job, so she sells charcoal illegally and works other odd jobs to help support her family. However, she has had to make difficult choices between providing food for her children or paying for them to go to school.  

Hillary’s oldest sister, Everline, is married and was able to complete her secondary education. The next sister in line is Agnes and she just completed her learning at GGCC in grade 12. Two of Hillary’s older brothers, Victor and Denis, dropped out of school before completing high school to help their mother.  One brother has been able to go on to college. Zablon is in his third year at Baraton University pursuing a degree course in Education. However, his mother has struggled to keep up with payments. Hillary has missed school often when she didn’t have the funds to send him to grade school.

Hillary was vetted in 2022 to join GGCC as an orphaned and vulnerable child. The mother is grateful to the administration and Hillary is also happy to join GGCC. He likes the school environment. He is looking forward to becoming a teacher when he grows up. He likes Mathematics and Kiswahili as his best subjects.  During his leisure time, he likes playing soccer. He is in good health.
