School Grade 3

Hesborn is the oldest child in a family of three boys. He was born in Kitenyi village, in Mfangano East location in 2013. Both of his parents are alive. Hesborn’s father remarried his mother after his first wife died. He is a bit older and unable to work a lot, although he does a small amount of farming. Unfortunately, peasant farming is seasonal and weather dependent, so it’s often unpredictable. Hesborn’s mother does not work outside the home. Therefore, the minimal amount of income generated from the farming is often not enough to pay for the children’s school fees. At times, this family has struggled to meet the most basic needs.

Hesborn’s younger brother, William Osodo, is learning at Kitenyi Primary School in PP1, while the third born, Enock Otieno, is not yet old enough to attend school. Before joining GGCC, Hesborn was also learning at Kitenyi primary school.

Hesborn was vetted and joined GGCC in August of 2021 in PP2 as a vulnerable child. He together with his parents are very grateful for the opportunity he has been given to learn at GGCC. This is a great relief to Hesborn’s parents. Hesborn likes the school environment, the teachers and his fellow pupils. At GGCC, Hesborn will learn without interruption and will also have the school materials he needs to participate fully in class.  He will get all the three meals that he was not getting at home.

Hesborn is not sure what he would like to become when he grows up, but he states he would like to drive his own car. During his leisure time, he likes playing soccer with his peers. He is in good health.
