Gavin was born in 2007 in Kaswanga Village, Soklo in Mfangano North location. He is the first-born child in a family of three children. Although his parents are both alive, he lives with his maternal grandmother. She is a widow but does her best to provide for Gavin through peasant farming. Gavin’s mother visits occasionally but is not around enough to parent him or support him. His father will have nothing to do with him.

Life has been difficult for Gavin as he has faced rejection and neglect from his parents and because his grandmother does not always make enough selling her products to provide both the basic necessities as well as pay for his education. There are times when they only have enough for two meals, and that may be porridge only. Not only has he faced food insecurity, but he has also missed out on his education when his grandmother could not afford to pay his school fees or purchase the uniforms and supplies he needed. Other relatives have helped with they could.

Gavin joined GGCC in 2023 in grade 9 as a vulnerable child. Gavin and his grandma are very grateful to God and the management for the opportunity granted to him to continue with his education. He shared that he feels as if he has found a conducive learning environment, sufficient food, a good place to sleep and believes while at GGCC that he will achieve his life’s goal of becoming an engineer.  His best subject is physics. Gavin likes playing volleyball. He is in good health.
