School Grade 11
Francis was born in 2003 and is the fifth child in a family of seven. Two siblings passed away so there are now five living children. His father passed away in 1991. His mother is a peasant farmer and sometimes sell firewood to help her feed her family.
His first three elder brothers are adults and are married. They fish in order to take care of their families. His other siblings are in school at Mauta Secondary School in form four.
Francis and his other brother had been struggling to pay school fees. Many times he was sent from school for unpaid levies and Francis would stay home till his mother was able to raise the money so he could return. This really interfered with his academics. Eating has also been a problem. There are times when Francis has only taken porridge as lunch though sometimes they would go without completely when there was no food.
While at home Francis sleeps in his mother’s iron roofed house and on a mat and covers himself with a blanket. He helps his mother look after the cattle after school or during weekends.
Francis enrolled in GGCC in January 2014.
In GGCC life is good and he sleeps on a mattress in a dormitory where he is taken care of by house parents. He is happy to join GGCC and he would like to become a policeman when he grows up. His best subject is English.
Francis loves playing football.
