Francis O. 1618

Grade Male: 9th - 12th Gr.

School Grade 12

Francis was born on October 12, 2006 in Sena village of Mfangano Island, east location. He is the fourth born in a family of six children. His father passed away in 2008 and left Francis and his siblings under the care of their mother. Francis’s mother remarried and moved away, leaving her children with their grandmother. This was a very difficult transition for the children and to make things worse, the children’s grandmother does not have a steady source of income. She does a little farming, but only for food for the children and not to sell. And there are times that farming doesn’t produce enough to feed the family, and they have porridge only.

In addition to their food insecurity, she often does not have enough money to cover the expenses related to their schooling. She would rely on help from relatives or well-wishers, but the children would have to stay at home until they were able to get the money together to pay to return.

Francis’s oldest sister, Everline Akinyi, is an adult. His older brothers Solomon and Evance are in grades 12 and 11. Raphael in grade 3 and Mercy is in grade 2. Francis was learning in Kakrigu Primary School before joining GGCC. He completed the 8th grade and scored 330 marks on the national exam.

Francis was admitted to GGCC in August of 2021 in grade 9 as orphaned and vulnerable child. This is a huge relief to he and his grandmother. Francis likes the GGCC environment which is so suitable for learning. He loves the spiritual nourishment offered at GGCC. Francis will not miss classes due to lack of school levies and scholastic materials. And he will be able to eat three meals a day.

He would like to work hard to be able to go on to college to study to be a teacher. His best subject is English. During his leisure time, Francis likes playing volleyball and soccer. He is in good health.
