Evans O. 1016

Grade Male: Kindergarten - 8th Gr.

School Grade 6

Evans is the last born in this family of seven, which consists of 3 girls and 4 boys. He was born in 2009 in Ugina village, Mfangano South location. His father died in 2013 after a short illness, leaving behind the widow in her semi-permanent house. Unfortunately it is not in a good shape and requires repair. Evans' mother managed to save a little money after the father’s death that helped her to start  a small scale business.  She earns a little money through the business to buy food for her children but it sometimes is not enough. Her children were often sent home from school because she was unable to pay the school fees. Many of her children were unable to complete school because of the inconsistency in their schooling.

Evans' sibling George, dropped from school in grade six, and is currently a part of a boat crew. Victor is in grade 8 at Ugina Primary school. Ouma dropped from school at grade 7 and currently stays with the Aunt. Molly also dropped out from school at grade six and got married. She has 3 children of her own. Linet is learning at Mauta Secondary School in grade 10 while Sheryl stays with the stepmother in Kisumu and is learning at Saganyinya Primary School in grade 5.

At home, Evans does what he can to help his mother.

Evans joined GGCC from Ugina Primary School in January of 2016 as an orphaned and vulnerable child and was admitted in KG1. He is so happy to join GGCC where he will learn well without any distractions and without the threat of being sent home from school for school levies.

At GGCC, he is excited of the Swings and the environment around. He promises to work hard so as to help back his mother and siblings in future. His hobby is singing.

Update, November 2017:

Evans is doing well in school and has placed 6th in his class of 24.  Science is his favorite subject, and he would love to become a teacher.  Evans loves Jesus very much and attends a Catholic church when he returns to his village.  Evan was often sick before joining GGCC, but is doing much better now.  Recently, he had a broken arm.  Evans loves to play soccer with his friends.
