Eunice O. 1256

Grade Female: 9th - 12th Gr.

School Grade 11

Eunice was born in 2007 at Soklo village, Mfangano North location. She is the second born in a family of four children. Eunice’s father was working in Nairobi where he was living with his family. After his death in 2010, Eunice and her siblings remained under the care of the mother who was forced to become the sole bread winner for the family. She started roasting maize to sell, but this was often not enough to provide for all of the family’s needs and continue to pay house rent. She was forced to send her first born son, Francis, to stay with her co-wife in Ramba village, Mfangano North location.

The family stills struggled, and the mother often did not provide enough food for three meals daily. And Eunice’s education was not a priority. She was in school, but not consistently since her mother could not always pay for the school fees.

Currently, the mother is planning to come back to Mfangano Island to stay with her co-wife in Ramba Villiage. It is far too expensive to for her to try and remain in the city. She is looking for funds to help her transport her household items from Nairobi back to Mfangano.

Eunice’s second and third born siblings, Francis and Sydney, are both learning at Soklo primary school in grades 4 and KG1 respectively. The fourth born, Holiness Samantha, is a baby.  Eunice was formerly learning at Drive-In Academy in Nairobi where she was in grade seven.

Eunice was vetted to join GGCC in January of 2018 as an orphaned and vulnerable child. After going through the interview process, she was found to fit in grade five. She is so happy to join GGCC where her step sister Natalia is also learning. She will now learn without being sent home for school levies. Her mother is so grateful to the administration for considering her daughter to join GGCC.

Eunice would like to work hard to become a doctor when she grows up. She likes playing football and singing in her leisure time.
