Eugene O. 1149

Grade Male: Kindergarten - 8th Gr.

School Grade 6

Eugene is the last born in a family of three children. He was born in Uterere village in Gwassi. His father died in 2013 leaving Eugene and his siblings under the care of the mother who is just a peasant farmer.

His elder sibling is in Tanzania staying with a relative. The second born, Sharon, completed grade 8 in 2016 and has not joined any secondary school.

Eugene’s mother depends mostly on well wishers and relatives to provide for her family’s needs. Unfortunately, this limits her ability to regularly provide for the basic needs of her children, including sufficient food and often times paying for school. Eugene’s education has been greatly impacted as his performance dropped as he was frequently sent home from school. He would have to wait for his mother to get the money together to return to school.

While at home, Eugene sleeps on a mat which he shares with his sibling and cousins. He covers himself with a bed sheet but does not have mosquito net.

Eugene was formerly learning at Uterere primary school where he was in KG3.

He was admitted to GGCC in January of 2017 as an orphaned and vulnerable child. He is so happy to be vetted to join GGA, a place where there is plenty of food, and little fear of being sent home. He likes the positive learning environment and friendly students and teachers.

Update, November 2017:

Eugene has placed 18th in his class of 24 students.  He enjoys his math class and would love to be a pilot after he finishes school.  Eugene is saved and is a member of a Seventh Day Adventist church.  In his free time, Eugene loves to play soccer.
